What is the talking stage?
Early, thin, and supposed to end. If it lasts a season, it has another name.

The talking stage is the early stretch where you are not exclusive, not a couple, and still deciding if you like the same hours. It is supposed to be short. You text, you meet, you either date or you stop. If you are still “talking” after months, with jealousy and no plan, you are in a situationship. Move it to a café or let it go. A Wave on Catch My Wave is a hello to someone already around you — useful when the person in your phone will not leave the phone.
- The talking stage is getting-to-know, mostly in chat, before a we.
- Give it a few weeks and a real meet, then decide.
- Months of chat with no daylight is not mystery. It is stalling.
- Ask for a table. If they will not sit, they were never talking toward you.
Talking is not a relationship
What is the talking stage: you matched, or you got a number, or you keep a streak of good nights. You have not defined anything. That is fine for a little while. It is a test of tone, humour, and whether they can pick a time. It is not a title you owe loyalty to. You may still meet other people until somebody asks for exclusivity.
Indian chatting culture — Instagram, WhatsApp, “good morning” for 40 days — can fake a bond. The body has not been in the same room. Chemistry in type is not compatibility. Put a place on it. Campus canteen, a chai tapri, a mall food court. Public, daytime, 18+.
How to end the stage on purpose
“Want to get coffee this week?” is the whole move. If they cannot do a week, they cannot do a we. If they come, you are dating, even if you have not said the word. Then, later, define. If they will not come, stop the good mornings. You do not need a speech.
Catch My Wave skips some of the endless talking: you both dropped a Beat from the same patch of city. Crossed paths means overlap — about 300 metres, within about 30 minutes, in the last 24 hours — not proof you stood together. Send a Wave. They catch it or they do not.
How Catch My Wave helps with the talking stage
Drop a Beat. See who’s dropping Beats around you. Send a Wave. Chat when they catch it.
A Beat is a photo or a short clip from the place you’re in. Location is stored so people nearby can see it. Other people do not see your pin, the exact time, or a movement trail.
A Wave is a hello with an intent — coffee, chat, hang, campus. Catching is free. Chat opens only if they catch it.
Crossed paths means two Beats probably shared the same real-world context: about 300 metres, posted within about 30 minutes, in the last 24 hours. That is overlap, not proof you stood together.
We do not follow you while the app is open. Your pin is only taken when you share a Beat. You must be 18.
If you want people who are actually around you — this café, this campus, this place — open Catch My Wave, share a Beat, and look.
Questions people ask
How long should the talking stage last?
A couple of weeks to a month of actual back-and-forth, with at least one meet, is plenty. After that, you are avoiding a decision.
Is the talking stage the same as a situationship?
No. Talking is early and light. A situationship is ongoing intimacy without a name. If you have been intimate and still “just talking,” use the other word.
